NessFest – Making Rainbows

Making Rainbows: mobile phone photography

With Gillian Allard

Date: 27 October 2020
Time: 2.45pm – 3.45pm
Location: online workshop via Zoom

Join Gillian for this amazing workshop using experimental photographic techniques.  As you know, the rainbow has become a symbol of togetherness during these difficult times. When you have rainbows on your mind they seem to pop up everywhere. Even doing boring day-to-day things like washing the dishes can make rainbows appear; when we mix washing up liquid with water it can create colourful rainbows on the surface of the bubbles in the bowl – especially when light shines on these watery shapes.

Using the macro option on your phone we will have a go at creating and photographing Fairy Liquid bubbles to gain psychedelic effects and learn how to edit these with creative effects using Pixlr app.

To take part in the workshop you will need to bring with you:

  • Washing up liquid
  • Cold water
  • Any bowl (not too big)
  • Old baking tray or other dark surface
  • Drinking glass or jam jar (no labels)
  • A teaspoon
